I was cruising through Facebook 2 days ago, and found this AWESOME post by my friend Samantha Buckley Hugessen about an action she is calling us all out to perform with her, called 30 Days of Conscious Giving. The idea is to fill the world around you with random acts of kindness. These don’t have to be huge philanthropic undertakings, but more like small gestures of kindness and goodwill toward our fellow human beings.
I researched some ideas for what to do, and came up with some good ones.
1) Write a letter to someone you love telling them how much you appreciate them.
2) Put a small gift in someone’s mailbox.
3) Hand a bag of hershey kisses to someone on the street with a little note in it.
4) Volunteer for a few hours anywhere.
5) Go the the Humane Society and help tend the animals, or just play with a few of them for a little while.
6) Give someone an ornament or a flower.
7) Message someone on Facebook a genuine compliment.
8) Visit a relative.
9) Email or write an old teacher who made a difference in your life.
10) Let the person behind you at the supermarket checkout with one or two items go ahead of you.
11) Give someone a book.
12) Donate clothes or blankets to a homeless shelter.
13) Pay for the bill for the car behind you in the drivethru.
14) Leave a sticky note with something positive on the mirror in a public restroom.
15) Put a dollar or two in with some toys on the shelf at the store.
This is only a list of suggestions, but if you take the time to look around you, I’m sure you will find a little something you can do every day to brighten someone’s life. A generous spirit is a treasure to the Universe. Be that spirit consciously.
